NM Partners for Learning

The final question I need to draft for the XQ Super School challenge is not a difficult one but I am suffering writer's block for perhaps the first time in my life. I've sat down to answer this last question about five times over the last two days and this is the furthest I've gotten. I will get this done today!!

Here's the question, in its simplest form, that I have to answer with no more than 300 words:

What partners will be part of the ongoing work of the school?

Response:
The L&LNM super school will work with partners around the state as learning communities are formed in NM cities and towns. These partners will be parents, teachers, businesses, nonprofits, school districts, library systems -- anyone who cares about our kids' learning and making New Mexico a better place to live. Many partners will be members of one or more learning community projects. Some will become teachers/trainers as well.

We will take a systems approach as we build our school, an approach that should result in buy-in from all partners. Each learning community will define its own system. It will:

  • put the basic pieces in place
  • eliminate any unnecessary practices that do not go toward their learning goals
  • try out new ideas contributed by its members
  • determine if those ideas work
  • tweak, get rid of, or replace those ideas to make improvements
  • do it all again.
It is an ongoing, cyclical process and requires the participation of our partners. We need their expertise and commitment to community.

When we need space for classes or training, we will count on businesses and other organizations in our learning communities. For example, the Albuquerque learning community working on road rage might have the police department represented in their group. The police department, a partner, probably has training rooms that the learning community could use free of charge.

We aren't asking our partners for money to support our efforts. We aren't asking for their political influence. We are asking our partners to be an integral and active part of the learning process and help the L&LNM super school build stronger New Mexico communities.

That's all I've got. I'm XQ Super Schooled out, people! Only two more weeks until it's all due, and I'm running out of steam. Comments, encouragement, suggestions, always help me get that energy back.

Go New Mexico!
